Utilization and Treatment Guidelines are rolling out in Montana’s Workers’ Compensation system in 2011. Attended training by the Department of Labor 02/22/2011 to learn about the blended Colorado / ACOEM guidelines, the web site and work with doctors and providers from around the state on various training scenarios. The practice guidelines are publicly available, free of charge, and can be accessed at http://www.mtguidelines.com .

Long time friend and professional colleague Jeff Tochihara passed away unexpectedly in the afternoon of February 16, 2011. We worked with Jeff for 5 years while he was with Stillwater Mining Company, with one of his many responsibilities being the supervision of their self-insured workers’ compensation claims. Mr. Tochihara was active in both the National Council of Self-Insurers and the Montana Self-Insurance Association, serving on the MSIA Board until leaving SMC for another opportunity in 2009. We spent many an hour driving with Jeff to various WC oriented functions. His wit, intelligence and curiosity were amazing. Beyond those traits, Jeff was a truly honorable and compassionate man.
